Star Trek

Star Trek is one of the most celebrated and loved Sci-Fi franchises of all time. The franchise has been going on for many decades and has not stopped since then. Currently, they are making another reboot show and are even in talks about making another movie. Star Trek is a franchise that I grew up on because of my dad. My dad has loved Star Trek since I could remember. I always remember times when my dad and I would sit down and watch Star Trek together. The one we mainly watched together was the Next Generation with Captain Picard. I always loved watching it with him, even when my dad might fall asleep watching it. I even watched the movies with him in theaters and seeing Into Darkness was such a cool experience with him. I texted him about watching it in class and said back to me: "I wish I was there so we can watch it together."  Ok, let's not get too sappy and talk about the impact of the show The show was a huge deal when it came out in 1966. The Matrix

When the debate started, I didn't really have a stance on the topic. I was having a hard time choosing between the red or blue pill. I decided on whether to know the truth no matter how bad, or ignore it and live in the simulation. In the end, I found myself still stuck on the decision. I remember stating that it would be hard for me to trust someone the moment I met them. I would not be able to handle a situation like Neo.  I remember in the debate, someone said something that stuck with me: Both places are not perfect, but what brings us closer to happiness? In the end, the whole debate about the red or blue pill is about which decision would make us happier. That was the thing that people always brought up when discussing their decision. Everyone always wants to be happy in the future. So, that...

Blade Runner

When I first heard about Blade Runner, it was because of the trailer for the sequel. I didn't know much about the original except for the fact that Harrison Ford is the star. After watching it, I found myself enjoying it and seeing symbolism within the movie.  The movie is based on the short story about Phillip K. Dick. It was originally called Do Androids Dream of Sleep? He also wrote many other books including The Man in the High Castle and Ubik. He had many influences on his stories. One of the biggest ones is H.G. Wells, who is known for his concepts of science fiction including time machines and space travel. His most well-known work is The. Time Machine and War of the Worlds. Most of his works dealt with criticism of society and also predicted many technologies that would come after his death. Phillip K. Dick adds commentary on limited time and identity in the story and Ridley Scott continues it in his movie, Blade Runner. The movie discusses the identity of the replicants an...
